Vows |
High Flight
Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long delirious, burning blue,
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew -
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untresspassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand and touched the face of God.

Impressions Of A Pilot
Flight is freedom in its purest form,
To dance with the clouds which follow a storm;To roll and glide, to wheel and spin,To feel the joy that swells within;
To leave the earth with its troubles and fly,And know the warmth of a clear spring sky; Then back to earth at the end of a day,Released from the tensions which melted away.
Should my end come while I am in flight,
Whether brightest day or darkest night;
Spare me your pity and shrug off the pain,Secure in the knowledge that I'd do it again; For each of us is created to die,
And within me I know, I was born to fly.

A Message From Richard Lancaster - John's oldest
brother:
"To all those that have posted.
I am Richard Lancaster. John's oldest brother. I was given
the link to this sight by my sister who is taking care of
business in Louisiana while I stayed home in Vermont to
fight the blizzard of 2007.
When I first started reading the posts on this site, I was
again hit by the sledge hammer of grief. But as I read on,
and I was overwhelmed by the love and respect that this
community had for John. On those rare occasions that we were
together he sometimes spoke about his helicopter work, but I
had no idea how involved he was in the helicopter world. I
cannot thank you enough for the insights, about my brothers
flying life, that I have found in your stories of him. This
was a part of my brother I knew little of, and I am greatful
to all those that overcame the emotions of losing a friend,
to tell the world about John
I do not know where 'Fling' is now, but wherever he is, he
will be helping someone, or telling a story that will make
someone laugh (and teach them something about life) or he
will be reveling in just being airborne. I always enjoyed my
time with my brother and I am so glad that so many others
shared in his humor and his talent as an instructor.
Bless you all and thank you.
Richard Lancaster"

A Message From Dan Simons - John's brother in law:
"I
spoke with my sister Lisa tonight, and I was telling her
about all these posts, and all the things people were
saying, and she was SO appreciative. She isn't at a point
where she can read these posts herself yet, but that day
will come (and anyone please feel free to repost this in
other threads/forums about John), ..." requesting that if
you have the time, please copy/paste your posts from any
other board and re-post on the
GuestBook on this website. ..."This will ensure that we
capture and archive these comments and postings for ever, in
one central place.
Thank you all for caring enough to share you thoughts.
--Dan Simons, John's brother in law."
